More 3D Mapping Projections

Just looking at more examples, this one in particular shows me how a projection could work at the front of the town hall as its a similar looking building thats featured in the video.

3D Video Mapping Projection

Looking into animations being projected onto a building and came across this idea of 3D mapping animation with the building. This allows the building to appear to interact with whats being projected. The video gives a clear example of what i mean.

This really brings the building to life and enhances the animations being projected.

Nokia Ovi Maps Projections

This video is a great piece of inspiration and is also a good visual example of how i want my concept to look like when being projected. One thing i like is the colour theme, it has a limited colour palette which the use of blue and white. Maybe this is something i could keep in mind

City Hall

Just looking at the building from different angles and the possibility of having the projection 360 degrees around it, so the graffiti will cover and flow around the whole building, to give it a more immersive experience for the viewers.

Talk With Johnny

After having a little chat with Johnny and discussing where i could take this idea I now know what i need to produce for my final outcome.

Johnny liked the idea of light graffiti and the concept of it being projected onto a building like the City Hall for the twilight part of the evening. Furthermore these light graffiti designs would be accompanied with the music being played within. The designs are meant to be a visual example of music being played. The designs will be from the general public who throughout the day will have produced and saved their designs to a computer so they can all can be collected and placed together with the music.

So to show this idea i am going to create a short animated video piece, maybe around 30 seconds which demonstrates how my idea will work and how i hope it will look like in reality.

Interpreting music with shapes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2qXOLyjZnw&feature=related

I love how this video shows a visual example of the music

Installation

I was thinking about how i wanted the display to be viewed. I had the idea of putting it in a tent, as then the lighting would be dimmer and the colours would show up more and look more vibrant on screen. However i am in two minds with this as then it hides it away from most of the public who cant see whats going on, this may put them off. Maybe an idea of putting a screen on the outside which shows whats going on within.

location

Just thinking of area of Sheffield where this installation could be placed.

i was thinking of placing in and around the Peace Gardens, it seems a popular place within the city, plus its like a centre point where everyone meets, so it would be a perfect place to gather a large audience

Possibilities into making it more interactive

The Digital Graffiti Wall is an interactive, fun and inventive drawing tool where users create digital graffiti on a large wall using a modified spray paint can. Instead of paint, when the cap is pressed the can 'sprays' invisible light, which is tracked by the computer as it moves across the digital wall.  The digital pain appears wherever the can is sprayed, just like spraying on a real wall.
The inbuilt  software offers the functionality of a typical artistic programme, and features a pop-out palette of 56 colours, which can be mixed together by creating different layers of varying transparency.
No more swapping paint cans to change colour or having to wear a face mask and gloves, this is totally environmentally friendly and accessible by anyone without any prior computer or graffiti skills.
Digital Graffiti Wall

The wall is used in much the same way as a conventional canvas but has the functionality of a typical interactive computer digital art paint program crossed with a simple animation package, enabling users to easily create and explore colours, textures and movement.
Artistic digital creations can then be saved, recalled and played back, as well as used in a number of other ways to create personal and unique mementos of the of their digital graffiti experience. For example, the user will have the option receive a copy of their creation by email free of charge and to email friends and family with a virtual 'postcard' from the event.

Professional Artists

We can supply graffiti artists with a strong reputation to live paint while bands play on stage etc.  Clients can pick and choose where the artist would appear.
Additional Walls

Additional walls can be used for graffiti 'battles' in front of an audience where users can pitch their skills against each other or an established graffiti writer.

Hugo Competition

On July 1, HUGO started the Graffiti Competition. During the first week of July, creatives who visited the local brand store in Berlin could spray their personal graffiti on an interactive wall. Participants got the chance to win 2x2 tickets for the HUGO Fashion Show Spring/Summer 2012.
I like the idea of making it into a competition, that way people will have more of a reason to create a piece of work, as they will have a chance of winning something

Using Projectors

The Graffiti Research Lab (GRL), kings of the light graffiti movement and unquestionably geeky graffiti artists, used a high powered projector, computer parts and a camera to “write” on the side of a building with a “mega laser”, which has a beam that can reach 5 miles away, for their “L.A.S.E.R.” project.

Having the idea of projecting result onto a large screen that way lots of people can view the images.

My Idea

I have the idea of having a interactive black wall and using the light cans people can draw onto the projected screens. They can choose colours, spray size etc.

Using technologies like the kinect and wii sensors

Sonodrome

Another company specialising into light graffiti

The Digital Graffiti Wall from Sonodrome is a fun and interactive way of creating digital artwork, be it graffiti, portraits, images, messages… It’s an opportunity to be creative with technology

Just like real graffiti, you use a spray can to create your designs. But the digital graffiti cans spray out light instead of paint, so the Digital Graffiti Wall is not only a lot less messy than real graffiti, but it also means your designs are available digitally. That means you can share them with friends and family, save them on your computer, or have them printed out onto canvass, T-shirts, stickers, or whatever you can think of!
The Digital Graffiti Wall is hired for lots of different occasions – from council run projects and corporate events, to weddings, individual parties and nightclubs. For special occasions or themed events we can provide logos, themed backgrounds, colour schemes and templates to suit your occasion. And if you want to have you artwork printed – we can take care of that for you too.
The Digital Graffiti Wall is available for hire and is hosted at your event by our CRB checked and fully insured team. Hire starts from £500. Digital Graffiti walls are also available for purchase from us.

Yr Wall

No more swapping paint cans to change colour or having to wear a face mask and gloves, and totally environmentally friendly, YrWall is accessible by anyone without any prior computer or graffiti skills.

YrWall is an interactive and inventive drawing tool for creating digital graffiti on a large screen using a modified spray paint can. Instead of paint, when the cap is pressed the can ‘sprays’ infra red light, which is tracked by a computer as it moves across the screen. The digital paint appears wherever the can is sprayed, just like spraying paint on a real wall. YrWall is available for short and long term hire and as permanent bespoke installations.
The YrWall system is also the basis of our bespoke custom presentation, meeting room and demonstration suites. At the heart of Lumacoustics is our creative and technical team who research, design and build bespoke solutions. From a single large screen controlled by gesture, digital pen or touch, to a complete space with AllWall projection to wow visitors.
Please view our YrWall micro-site or contact us for more information.

Play with stencils, animated paint effects like swirls, stars, splats and drips, and paint with a full range of colours and fills. It’s like real graffiti without the mess.

YrWall digital graffiti wall has been a hit at events everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to New York City, and for clients ranging from small private parties, youth projects and schools to multinational organisations such as Google and Chevrolet.

Video Inspiration

I found this video very inspiring. I like the idea of someone touching, or in my case spraying light onto a screen instantly.

Glow Graffiti

low Graffiti or 'Light Spray' lets you paint and write with light and leave your creations glowing back at you! The Bright can-shaped UV torch super-charges the glow in the dark material that can be used again and again

Each kit contains a large sheet (70cm x 70cm) of glow in the dark material along with a UV (or blacklight) torch in the shape of a spray-paint can.

Shining the torch onto the material for only a moment will super-charge the glow in the dark material and make that area glow brightly. Moving the can closer to the material to make brighter smaller point and further away to make a wider gentler glow.

The glow slowly fades away over time leaving you with a blank canvas ready for a new design.

Hang the giant glow in the dark sheet on the wall or spread it on a table and use the Spray Paint torch to super-charge parts of the glow in the dark material, and make your messages glow back at you! The giant 70cm x 70cm glow in the dark 'canvas' is rechargable again and again from regular light and will glow brightly, when charged with the spray-paint shaped UV torch included.

Unlike a traditional can of spray-paint, this spray-can is actually a can-shaped bright UV torch that you use to charge the glow in the dark material in specific spots. over time, the glowing message will fade away leaving you with a blank canvas ready for a new creation.

Light Graffiti

After looking for some alternative for graffiti aerosols i came across this technique called light graffiti, its created by exposing the camera shutter for a period of time allowing someone with a light source to 'draw' a light shape within the time limit. The results show the whole pattern the light has taken. This allows you to create designs and piece of art.
